2023 1L Scholars

Habsat Badmus
Habsat Badmus

Beginning in the Fall of 2023, I will be pursuing my JD at Santa Clara School of Law. I Received a Bachelor of Arts in Biology with minors in Chemistry from the University of North Texas where I graduated with highest honors. While at UNT, I served as an Ambassador for the College of Science, in which I organized student body events and engaged in outreach targeting prospective students. Prior to law school, I was employed at the City of Houston Legal Department- Torts/Civil Rights Division, where I gained valuable knowledge and experience.

Haisley Burbidge
Haisley Burbidge

My name is Haisley Burbidge, and I graduated with my Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from the University of Utah in 2020. Since graduation, I have worked as a software engineer in both the startup and corporate tech world, learning as much as I could. Though I enjoyed my experience, I never had the same passion as my peers. I love being in tech, but I didn’t want to be the person building it. After months of careful thought and self-evaluation, I decided I want to further my career in the tech industry by pursuing patent law. I was accepted into Brigham Young University J. Reuben Clark Law School and will be starting fall of 2023. I am excited to start this chapter of my life and be given the opportunity to receive support from the community so early in my journey.

Mariela Cisco
Mariela Cisco

Ms. Mariela Cisco is pursuing her J.D. at the University of New Mexico School of Law. She received a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of New Mexico, with a minor in Psychology. Prior to enrolling in law school, Ms. Cisco worked in Comparative Immunology as an undergraduate researcher at the University of Pennsylvania Department of Pathobiology studying the role of silver nanoparticles as an antimicrobial and immunostimulant agent and presented her work at NACIW Canada. At the Center for Evolutionary and Theoretical Immunology, she worked on mucosal microbiome questions. Additionally, Ms. Cisco interned for the Institute of Marine and Environmental Technology where she performed bioinformatic analyses of large sequences and datasets. She enjoys providing mentorship as a judge for the Central NM STEM Research Challenge.

Kester Coutinho
Kester Coutinho

Dr. Coutinho is pursuing his J.D. degree at the Boston University School of Law. He currently works as a Life Sciences Technical Advisor at Ropes & Gray, with a practice focused on IP diligence, strategy, and patent litigation. Dr. Coutinho received a B.A. in Molecular & Cell Biology from UC Berkeley and a Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Cellular and Molecular Biology from the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. For his doctoral research, Dr. Coutinho worked on a moonshot aimed at the precision-engineering of a new generation of immune-like cell-based therapies. Dr. Coutinho’s scientific experience, which spans multiple technical areas, has also involved research at Harvard Medical School in immunology and at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in structural cell biology.

Sean M Deresh Larin
Sean Deresh Larin

Sean is pursuing his J.D. degree at Columbia Law School. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Earth Sciences and a Bachelor of Science in Engineering in Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania, where he graduated magna cum laude from the Vagelos Integrated Program in Energy Research. During his undergraduate years, Sean volunteered at the Energy Coordinating Agency to research funding opportunities for weatherization assistance in low-income homes and worked as a legal intern at the Puerto Rico Energy Bureau. He was also a research assistant at Penna’s Center for Sustainable Separation of Metals and Gorte-Vohs Catalysis & Fuel Cell Research Laboratory, where he investigated electrochemical separation methods for tantalum and niobium and characterized silica thin films for emissions reduction in power plants.

Alexis Hardy
Alexis Hardy

Ms. Hardy is pursuing her J.D. degree at the University of Georgia School of Law. She received her Bachelor of Science in Engineering and Master of Science in Engineering in Electrical Engineering from Mercer University. While at Mercer University, Ms. Hardy conducted research in astrophysics relating to cosmic rays, served in multiple chapter and regional executive board positions in the National Society of Black Engineers, and provided tutoring services to students in the Macon - Bibb area. During her studies, Ms. Hardy worked as a case manager for a personal injury law firm, a System Engineer Intern at Raytheon Intelligence and Space, and as a Staff Electrical Engineer at Mercer Engineering Research Center. Prior to entering law school, Ms. Hardy worked as a IP Technical Specialist in the patent prosecution department at Greenberg Traurig, LLP.

Shraddha Khirwadkar
Shraddha Khirwadkar

Ms. Khirwadkar is pursuing her J.D. degree at Northeastern University School of Law. Previously, she received her Bachelor of Science with a concentration in biochemistry from Brock University, graduating with the highest academic standing in her department. At Brock, she won the Spirit of Brock Award as the sole graduating student who best embodied perseverance and community involvement, and received membership to the Brock Leaders Citizenship Society, an philanthropic club fostering youth leadership at the grassroots level with specific focus on empowering the local community. She received her Master in Biochemistry from the University of Toronto focusing on the simulation of the infant gut microbiome using constraints-based metabolic modelling. She loves to travel, inspired by her trip to Galway, Ireland, presenting her research and publications at the COBRA 2022 Conference.

Connie Li
Connie Li

Ms. Li is pursuing her J.D. degree at Stanford Law School. She received a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from Cornell University. At Cornell, she led technical projects and the creation of an environmental sustainability case challenge on the Engineers for a Sustainable World: Biofuels project team, and performed research on small molecule mimetics of cell penetrating peptides in the Alabi Lab. After graduating, she worked on process characterization for the pneumococcal conjugate vaccine franchise at Merck and led gene therapy tech transfer projects at Center for Breakthrough Medicines.

Patrick Lim
Patrick Lim

Mr. Lim is pursuing his J.D. at Florida State University College of Law. He received a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering, with a specialization in biomaterials, from the University of Florida. During his time at UF, he conducted research on the mechanical properties of mice hearts in order to create hydrogel-based soft tissue mimics. He also was involved in, and served on, multiple student organization executive boards. In his spare time, Mr. Lim enjoys skydiving, traveling, and SCUBA diving.

I am a 1L at Santa Clara University: School of Law. I possess a Master’s and Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. I start each day with a game of chess to activate my brain. I enjoy developing meaningful relationships that flourish into a long-term connection. A great day for me consists of listening to music on the beach!

Krista Marrocco

Krista graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Florida. She is excited to join the 1L class of 2026 as a J.D. candidate at Georgia State University. Krista is excited to apply what she has learned in her undergraduate studies while in her legal career.

Miracle Orji
Miracle Orji

Ms. Orji will be pursuing her J.D. degree at the University of California, Irvine Law School in Fall'23. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry with minors in Global African Studies and Sociology from Seattle University. Ms. Orji was a student researcher on Catalytic Rates for Methylpyrazine Formulation by Coffee OMTS, wrote her thesis on the minimal impact of preeclampsia biochemical markers on Black maternal mortality. She also holds a Master of Public Health in Healthcare Management with a certificate in Maternal and Child Health from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. While there, Ms. Orji served as the School of Public Health student body president and won an interdisciplinary Healthcare Innovation Case Competition. Prior to entering law school, Ms. Orji held healthcare leadership roles in the County of San Diego and in private dialysis care.

Olga Padilla

I am grateful for the opportunity to be part of the law school that professionally challenges me to grow and enrich my personal and professional knowledge and spirit. Further, having the opportunity to work for the Patent Office and used my electrical engineering skills at the same time, I obtained my patent registration number. Moreover, working for the private industry (corporate and law firm) as well was and is a rewarding experience.  I am grateful for this scholarship that allows me to pursue a law degree making the load financially easier.  At the same time, this opportunity creates hope and encouragement in the community.

Cole Price
Cole Price

Mr. Price is pursuing his J.D at Michigan State University Law School. He received his B.A in Biology focused on practical sociology from North Carolina State University in 2018. Mr. Price worked closely with North Carolina State’s Paper-Science Engineering Department, to develop a comprehensive analysis of current paper making technologies that was later published in TAPPI Journal. Concurrent to his undergraduate studies, Mr. Price served an executive role with the University's African Student Union and worked closely with Oak City Shelter to serve the local homeless population in Raleigh.

Johnetta Price
Johnetta Price

Ms. Johnetta E. Price will be pursuing her J.D. degree at Liberty University School of Law in the Fall of 2023. Academically, Ms. Price has a Bachelor of Science in Biology; a Master of Science in Management, Leadership, and Organizational Effectiveness; and an Educational Specialist degree in Educational Leadership. She is a doctoral candidate at Keiser University conducting dissertation research in university technology transfer and intellectual property model development. Furthermore, Ms. Price has years of research experience in the areas of pharmacogenetics, human communication disorders, cancer, and molecular biology. Ms. Price also serves as Vice-President of the United African Christian Heritage Foundation (UACHF) Unlimited, Incorporated. The UACHF Unlimited works with international ministries, hosts educational programs, and assists in agricultural development projects in Sierra Leone, West Africa. She is excited to join the Sidney B. Williams, Jr. Scholars Class.

Dianara Ramirez
Dianara Ibarra

Dianara Ramirez Ibarra is pursuing her J.D. at Cardozo School of Law. Mrs. Ramirez Ibarra received a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences in Physiology and a Bachelor of Arts in Latin American Studies from the University of Arizona. At the University of Arizona, Mrs. Ramirez Ibarra was a McNair Scholar and a Supplemental Instruction Leader for general chemistry and physiology. Upon graduation, Mrs. Ramirez Ibarra held various paralegal roles in different legal industries and multiple mentorship roles.

Gloria Ren
Gloria Ren

Gloria is an incoming Hamilton Fellow at Columbia Law Class 2026. She is currently an Associate management consultant for Oliver Wyman. During her time at Oliver Wyman, she has worked on an assortment of projects ranging in topic from developing remediation procedures for a bulge bracket bank to pricing optimization strategies for a regional bank and a consumer goods retailer. She was selected as a 2021 Jurist Digital Scholar during which she conducted research in differential and data privacy. Prior to that, Gloria graduated Magna Cum Laude from Cornell University in 2020 with a B.S. in Operations Research and Industrial Engineering and a minor from the Cornell Dyson School of Business.

Tia Smith
Tia Smith

Ms. Smith is pursuing her J.D. degree at the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law. She received her Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Michigan State University (MSU). While at MSU, Ms. Smith worked as an undergraduate research assistant in the Electric Machines and Power Electronics Research Laboratory (EMPowER) with an interest in electrical and electromechanical power conversion. She held many positions including a recitation math tutor, student ambassador for the Women in Engineering (WIE) program, and a Community Outreach Chair for the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE). Prior to attending law school, Ms. Smith worked as an intellectual property law clerk at Carlson, Gaskey & Olds, PC assisting with patentability and clearance searches as well as assisting attorneys in the prosecution of patents.

Twinkle Tharwla
Twinkle Tharwala

Ms. Tharwala received a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering and a minor in Business from The University of Texas at Austin. As an undergraduate, she worked in a microfluidics research lab (e.g., creating lab-on-a-chip devices) and completed a biomaterials internship related to 3D bioprinting human lungs. Prior to pursuing law school, Ms. Tharwala worked as a Patent Agent at boutique and mid-sized law firms. She has experience drafting and prosecuting patent applications in electrical, mechanical, and software arts, especially with augmented reality / virtual reality (AR / VR) systems, electronic displays, medical devices, and imaging systems.

Amanda Todd
Amanda Todd

Amanda Todd is an incoming 1L. She has worked as a regulatory analyst supporting a large medical device company and graduated with distinction in her master's degree in regulatory science from Arizona State University. Amanda graduated with high honors from California State University Northridge with a degree in biotechnology. Amanda is dedicated to utilizing her STEM background to become a patent lawyer. She is interested in the intersection of law, patent protection, and the promotion of alternative incentives to encourage innovation to serve indigent populations. Amanda likes to play piano, hike, and travel in her free time.

Stephanie Vega
Stephanie Vega

Ms. Vega is pursuing her J.D. degree from NYU School of Law. She received a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences and a minor in Environment & Sustainability from Cornell University. While a student at Cornell University, she conducted DNA damage signaling research, was a Rawlings Presidential Research Scholar, and served as a student ambassador for the Undergraduate Admissions Office. Prior to entering law school, Stephanie was employed at Putnam Associates as a life science consultant serving pharmaceutical and biotech clients.

Aleah Wordsworth

My name is Aleah Wordsworth and I will be attending the University of North Carolina School of Law in the fall of 2023. I graduated from North Carolina Central University (NCCU) with a bachelor's degree in biomedical science. While at NCCU, I worked as a student researcher in organic chemistry and biomedical science labs. After graduation, I did a post-baccalaureate research program at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences. I plan to use my experience and education to become an intellectual property attorney. I am excited to be a Sidney B. Williams Scholar because I will now have the opportunity to access resources that will assist me throughout my legal journey. I hope to one day inspire underrepresented students to explore IP law and further diversify the field.

Christine Akagi

Ms. Akagi is pursuing her J.D. degree at Brigham Young University. She received a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering with minors in mathematics and computer science from Brigham Young University where she graduated with honors. During her undergraduate years, Ms. Akagi was an active member of the BYU chapter of the Society of Women Engineers serving as treasurer and then vice president. Ms. Akagi also worked as a research assistant researching Gaussian Process Regression algorithms deployed on unmanned aerial vehicles. Prior to attending law school, Ms. Akagi worked as a patent engineer at Holland and Hart assisting in the prosecution of patents related to 5G wireless communications and memory devices.

Brian Anderson
Brian Anderson

Mr. Anderson is pursuing his J.D. degree at the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law. He received a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of California–Irvine. While at UC Irvine, Mr. Anderson worked as an undergraduate researcher at the Donald Bren School of Information and Computer Sciences with a focus on algorithms education. Additionally, he competed for four years as a member of his school’s Mock Trial team, being named an All-National Attorney. Mr. Anderson has been employed as a technical product management intern for AT&T and software engineering intern for Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.

Neel Bakshi

Mr. Bakshi is pursuing his J.D. degree at the University of Michigan Law School. He received a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Duke University. After completing his undergraduate degree, Mr. Bakshi worked as a Deployment Engineer at 6 River Systems, where he was responsible for facilitating warehouse automation projects for e-commerce clients by deploying fleets of autonomous robots. Prior to entering law school, Mr. Bakshi worked as a Patent Examiner at the United States Patent and Trademark Office, where he examined patent applications associated with vehicle control systems.

Brittany Grego

Ms. Grego is pursuing her J.D. degree at Yale Law School. She received a Bachelor of Science in Engineering in Chemical and Biological Engineering with minors in Neuroscience and Engineering Biology from Princeton University with high honors and was awarded the Richard K. Toner Thermodynamics prize. While at Princeton, Ms. Grego volunteered to serve as a BSE interactor and was an undergraduate Reiner G. Stoll Fellowship student researcher. Ms. Grego also interned at St. Jude’s Pediatric Oncology Education Program and crafted a research project in CAR T-cell therapy. Prior to beginning law school, Ms. Grego worked as a business analyst for Shearman & Sterling LLP.

Mr. Hoang is pursuing his J.D. degree at the University of Virginia School of Law. He received a Bachelor of Science and Arts in Biochemistry and a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations and Global Studies from the University of Texas at Austin. During his time at UT Austin, Mr. Hoang was a teaching assistant in analytical chemistry research laboratories dedicated to advocating for underrepresented student groups. While pursuing his degree, Mr. Hoang also worked in a diverse array of advocacy roles, including interning at citizenship centers dedicated to supporting recent immigrant communities, volunteering at Austin ISD elementary schools to promote literacy for at-risk students, and serving on his university senate to recruit and retain a diverse student body.

Ms. Huang received a Bachelor of Science and Arts in Biology from The University of Texas at Austin, with minors in Business Foundations Program and Architecture Studies. As an undergraduate, Ms. Huang served as an intern at the Brown Foundation Institute of Molecular Medicine and at the Center for Women in Law. She held positions as a resident assistant, Senator for University Residence Hall Association, and Associate Director of Outreach for Student Government. Prior to law school, Ms. Huang worked remotely at Ringle as a freelance English tutor for professional adults across Asia. She is a leader at Girlstart where she conducts after-school programs focused on encouraging STEM education and careers for girls at underserved schools.

Bethany Jarvis

Mrs. Jarvis is pursuing her J.D. degree at the University of Washington School of Law. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Southern California. During her undergraduate studies, Butler worked as an undergraduate researcher in a biosystems engineering laboratory and interned for St. Jude Medical and Abbott Laboratories in their Cardiac Rhythm Management, Hematology and Structural Heart Divisions. After graduating, she returned to Abbott Laboratories as a manufacturing engineer focusing on pacemaker and implantable cardiac defibrillator devices, process validations and development builds. She later moved to Abbott’s transfusion division where she worked as an engineer on blood and plasma screening products focusing extensively on tooling design and product development. While working at Abbott, Butler completed her Master of Science degree in Engineering with a Specialization in Systems Engineering.

Samuel Kim

Dr. Kim received a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering from Auburn University and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from MIT. He has extensive background in statistical genetics and published multiple first-authored articles in high-impact journals. After receiving his Ph.D., he has been working as a technology specialist at Fish & Richardson, focusing on patent prosecution and post-grant work on electrical and computer technologies. In addition to his patent practice, Dr. Kim is heavily involved in STEM education and mentorship.

Ms. Kim is pursuing her J.D. degree at the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School. She received a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering and MBA from Texas Tech University. As an undergraduate, she helped develop droplet-based high throughput microfluidic arrays as a researcher in a microfluidics laboratory, and during her MBA, worked on technology commercialization of in-situ chemical characterization devices. Prior to entering law school, Ms. Kim worked as a product manager in biotechnology, defining product strategy for multiplex protein assays and bioinformatics tools for drug discovery and translational research.

Ms. Lam is pursuing her J.D. degree at Harvard Law School. She received her Bachelor of Science in Chemistry with a second major in Political Science from the University of Chicago in 2022. While at UChicago, she was a senior writer at the Gate, a member of Phi Alpha Delta, and a teacher with Debate it Foward. She spent her summers interning with Boies Schiller and Flexner, Pfizer, and Proskauer Rose.

Ms. Caty Medrano is pursuing her J.D. degree at Chicago-Kent College of Law. She was born in Chihuahua, Mexico and moved to El Paso, TX, where she attended the El Paso Community College and later received a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from The University of Texas at El Paso. Her main interests are cybersecurity, software design, and online privacy issues.

Mr. Mendoza is pursuing his J.D. degree at The University of Tennessee College of Law. He received a Bachelor of Science in Biology along with minors in Chemistry, International Studies, STEM Education, and Spanish from The University of Alabama at Birmingham as well as a master’s degree in Special Education for Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Learners from The George Washington University and a specialist's degree in Teacher Leadership for School Improvement from the University of Florida. At UAB, Mr. Mendoza was a McNair Scholar, a member of the University Honors Program, and an active collegiate member of Theta Chi Fraternity and the Order of Omega Greek Honor Society. Mr. Mendoza held several executive board positions during his undergraduate studies and represented UAB to the British Council of Undergraduate Research when he presented his research at the University of South Wales in Cardiff.

Jaime EL Koury_
Jaime Miguel El-Koury

Mr. El Koury is pursuing his J.D. at Harvard Law School. He is interested in studying appellate law and the legal intersections of national security with technology. Mr. El Koury received his Bachelor degree in Neuroscience at Northwestern University along with a double major in Political Science. While completing his Bachelor degree, he worked as a researcher for the U.S. Department of Defense. He also worked at the Woodrow Wilson Center where he helped track Iran’s nuclear technology. Prior to entering law school, Mr. El Koury was as a legal analyst focused on white collar crime matters at Kobre & Kim LLP in New York City. Later—when Kobre & Kim opened a new location in Dubai—Mr. El Koury transferred to the U.A.E. to help expand the firm’s legal offerings in judgment enforcement, international arbitration, and sanctions advising. Mr. El Koury is an alumnus of the SEO Law catalyst program and is currently involved with The Appellate Project.

Mr. Pacheco is pursuing his J.D. at The University of Chicago Law School. Mr. Pacheco received his B.A. in Molecular Biology focused on Immunology from Cornell University in 2018, with a minor in Law & Society. He conducted metabolism-related research at Sanford Burnham Medical Discovery Institute and Pfizer and Immunology research at Cornell University. Before law school, Mr. Pacheco worked for two years as a Policy Specialist for the Legal Investigations team at Google and another two years as a Project Manager for Google Global Affairs (Legal, Compliance, and Trust & Safety), where he drove the completion of multiple legal compliance tools and incident response workflows.

Ms. Sophia Poirier is pursuing her J.D. degree at the University of Texas - Austin School of Law. She received her Bachelor of Science and Master of Science both in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Miami. During her time at the University of Miami, Ms. Poirier was a teaching assistant, served as an executive board member of her sorority and Society of Women Engineers, welcomed new students as a College of Engineering ambassador and researched biomechanics related to upper extremity implants. While pursuing her degrees, Sophia worked at a medical device manufacturer where her research was published in the Journal of Hand Surgery and Operative Techniques in Orthopaedics. Prior to entering law school, Ms. Poirier was employed at Smith & Nephew as a Regulatory Affairs Specialist. Her daily work involved ensuring medical devices were safe and effective and that each device met the regulations of countries around the world.

Ms. Roberts is pursuing her J.D. degree at Harvard law school. She received a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and a Bachelor of Art in Political Science from Arizona State University. While an undergraduate, Alexia was a teaching assistant. She was also a community leader where she created curriculum to get young refugee students excited about STEM careers. Mr. Roberts has had several private and public sector internships including an engineering intern at Frito-Lay inc, a research intern for the federal Department of State, and a technical assistant for Allen Bates Technology. During her time at Harvard she has gotten involved in a number of organizations including Law and Technology Society, Harvard Defenders, and Harvard ACS Policy Committee.

Ms. Rodriguez is pursuing her J.D. degree at the University of Baltimore School of Law. She received her Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering from Johns Hopkins University and minored in Entrepreneurship & Management and Mathematics. While a student at Johns Hopkins, she conducted computational research in HIV/AIDs and worked at the technology transfer department, where she provided market analysis and commercialization recommendations for faculty, physician, and student inventors. Prior to attending law school, Ms. Rodriguez worked at the United States Patent & Trademark Office as a Patent Examiner and examined applications related to electrosurgical devices and thermal therapies.

Ms. Rose is pursuing her J.D. degree at Georgetown University Law Center. She received a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Iowa and a Masters of Public Health from Columbia University. Prior to entering law school, Ms. Rose was employed at Baker Tilly where she worked as a Life Sciences Consultant producing targeted commercial growth initiatives for both fast-track launch and in-market expansion for new medical device companies. Additionally, she was an SEO Law Fellow at WilmerHale where she had the opportunity to work on numerous projects in the intellectual property litigation group, including drafting a memorandum pertaining to overcoming an ‘obvious to try’ patent rejection and conducting product research for a medical device for a patent infringement case.

She received a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, with a minor in Mathematics. While at UW–Madison, Ms. Shi was an interdisciplinary researcher in Zoology and Engineering Physics, a volunteer at Alternative Breaks in the Florida Keys, and a member of the Pres House Council and music team. Prior to entering law school, Ms. Shi was employed as a Systems Engineer at Motorola Solutions, Inc., where she led teams to upgrade ASTRO P25 radio systems for the first responders in public safety.

Mr. Usayd Siddiqi is pursuing his J.D. degree at Emory University School of Law. Mr. Siddiqi received his Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of Houston. After completing his degree, he worked as an asset management and environmental engineer at Covestro, where he led reliability and permitting efforts for the Baytown site. Mr. Siddiqi has heavily been involved in the Houston community, organizing multiple TEDx, service projects through the UH Bonner Leaders program, and events at the Maryam Islamic Center. Mr. Siddiqi is a registered patent agent and plans on pursuing a career in patent litigation.

Mr. Stanley is pursuing his J.D. degree at the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law. He received a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering from Iowa State University. While at Iowa State, he served in student government for 3 years, frequently representing student perspectives during discussions with university administration and external stakeholders. He was also involved in various projects in the Aerospace Engineering department, including a capstone project where he and a team of 8 students at 3 different universities collaboratively designed and manufactured an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). Prior to entering law school, Mr. Stanley worked as a Patent Examiner at the United States Patent and Trademark Office in the robotics and autonomous vehicle space.

Daniel grew up in West New York, New Jersey as the son of two immigrants who immigrated to the United States in order to pursue a better life. Daniel is a proud public health advocate, immigration activist, and a community development veteran with over 10+ years of experience in activism and community building in towns and cities across the country. He is a connector, enjoys relationship building, and truly cares about people's mental and physical health. He is deeply involved with the health and wellness of New York City and has worked for a number of government, non-profit and private entities across the city to accomplish this goal. He is recently working on a community focused immigration anthology series that documents immigration stories called All Roads Lead Here. Daniel studied Neurobiology at the University of Wisconsin for his undergrad and received his Master in Public Health from New York University. He will be attending the University of Michigan Law School.

Mr. Amirani is pursuing his J.D. degree at UCLA School of Law. He received a Bachelor of Science in Electrical & Computer Engineering from Cornell University. Prior to entering law school, Mr. Amirani was employed at Analog Devices, Inc, where he worked as a Product Engineer in the High Speed Converters group. His daily work included working in a lab environment to characterize and evaluate digital to analog (DAC) signal converters, as well as lead a small team in evaluation planning and management for new transceiver technologies.

Mr. Benford is pursuing his J.D. degree at Stanford Law School. He received a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. While at UW–Madison, Mr. Benford was an instructor, teaching assistant, and volunteer tutor for initiatives that teach technology skills to underrepresented youth groups. Prior to entering law school, Mr. Benford was employed as a Senior Software Engineer at PerBlue Entertainment, Inc, where he developed mobile games, working with partners at Disney Interactive to bring Disney and Pixar IP to the small-small screen.”

Mr. Brown is pursuing his J.D. degree at the University of New Hampshire Franklin Pierce School of Law. He received a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Mathematics from South Carolina State University. While a student at South Carolina State, Justin served as the Student Body Vice President and Student Body President. After completing his bachelor’s degrees, Mr. Brown began his career as a software engineer for Eli Lilly and Company where he currently delivers automation solutions across multiple emerging technologies to help Lilly increase its speed and efficiency within the drug development lifecycle.

Mr. Carr is pursuing his J.D. degree at the University of New Hampshire Franklin Pierce School of Law. He received a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry at Norfolk State University, and, while at Norfolk State, he was a member of the Dozoretz National Institute for Science and Applied Mathematics. Mr. Carr worked as an undergraduate researcher at the Marie V. McDemmond Center for Applied Research in renewable energy resources including quantum dots, and lithium-ion batteries, and served as a Norfolk State Summer Bridge mentor and chemistry tutor. Additionally, Mr. Carr was a University of Houston Law Center Pipeline Program Scholar II, worked as a Government Relations Intern for Bracewell LLP’s Policy Resolution Group, and interned for the Honorable Wayne A. Humphrey of the Westchester County (NY) Family Court.

Mr. Chow is pursuing his J.D. degree at New York University School of Law.  He received a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of California, Los Angeles.  As an undergraduate, he served as a physiological researcher in a life sciences laboratory, and presented his work at the International C. elegans Conference and UCLA Research Showcase.  Prior to entering law school, Mr. Chow worked as a Litigation Paralegal at Ropes & Gray LLP.  During his time there, he participated in the patent application process for a novel pharmaceutical, and facilitated the launch of the firm’s Life Sciences Litigation Blog.  Mr. Chow also served as a member of Ropes’ Diversity & Inclusion Committee, where he sought to promote greater cultural awareness at the firm.

In her work, Ms. Chow was able to use her technical expertise to consult to counsel on a variety of legal matters including Patent and Trade Secret Infringement, generally surrounding products or services that involve technology.

Ms. Fang is pursuing her J.D. degree at Stanford University. Ms. Fang received a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering from Johns Hopkins University, with a second major in History of Science, Technology, and Medicine.  While pursuing her Bachelor of Science degree, she conducted imaging and oncology research at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, and Massachusetts General Hospital through Harvard-MIT Health Sciences and Technology.  She also served as Business Development Lead for a patent-pending drug delivery cranial implant project.  Prior to entering law school, Ms. Fang worked as a Patent Examiner at the United States Patent and Trademark Office in the medical imaging and diagnostics space and volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House of DC.

Ms. Kasana is pursuing her J.D. degree at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign College of Law. She received a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering with a specialization in Cell and Tissue Engineering, along with a minor in Business, and a master’s degree in Chemical Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology. At Illinois Tech, Ms. Kasana was a Camras Scholar, a member of the Biomedical Engineering Society, and an active collegiate member of Alpha Sigma Alpha Sorority and the Order of Omega Greek Honor Society. Ms. Kasana held several executive board positions during her undergraduate studies and represented fraternity and sorority life to Congress during the Fraternal Government Relations Coalition Capitol Hill Visits.

Ms. Kerr is pursuing her J.D. degree at Lewis and Clark College. She received a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Portland. After completing her Bachelor of Science degree, she provided tutoring services to Native Hawaiian students, assisting with schoolwork and aiding them in navigating remote learning during the pandemic. Prior to entering law school, Ms. Kerr worked as a steward for native land and plant conservation in Hilo, Hawai‘i. She is a member of the Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement, which enhances the cultural, economic, political, and community development of Native Hawaiians and supports underserved communities in Hawai‘i.

Ms. Khan is pursuing her J.D. degree at the University of Illinois College of Law. She received a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from the University of Houston with a minor in Politics & Ethics. While completing her Bachelor of Science degree, Ms. Khan worked as an undergraduate laboratory researcher for the UH Department of Chemistry. In addition, Ms. Khan is an alumna of the University of Houston Law Center Pipeline Program. After completing the Program, Ms. Khan was recognized as a Southwest Water Company Pre-Law Fellow and interned for the Honorable Kathie E. Davidson, the Supervising Judge of the Family Courts for the 9th Judicial District. She also interned with the Honorable Maria Vazquez-Doles, Orange County Supreme Court. Prior to entering law school, Ms. Khan served as the Pipeline Program’s Bridge Intern for Jackson Walker LLC.

Ms. Kousari is pursuing her J.D. degree at Harvard Law School. She received a Bachelor degree in Human Developmental and Regenerative Biology from Harvard University. While pursuing her degree, Ms. Kousari worked as a research assistant in a genetics lab at Harvard Medical School and a tutor for various STEM classes. In her fourth year, she was awarded the Endicott Peabody Saltonstall Prize and the Henry Shaw Post-graduate Traveling Fellowship. Ms. Kousari is a current board member of the Harvard Iranian Alumni Association.

Christine Neipert

Dr. Neipert is pursuing her JD at UNH – Franklin Pierce School of Law with a special focus on intellectual property. After receiving her PhD, she headed intellectual property and business development efforts for a number of biotech and healthcare start-ups and has been frequently retained as a consultant by venture capital to assist with investment target diligence. Dr. Neipert received her Ph.D. in Chemistry from USF and is a Registered US Patent Agent.

Chisom Nwakama
Chisom Nwakama

Ms. Nwakama is pursuing her J.D. degree at the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School. She received a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Creighton University, with minors in Biology, Mathematics, and Philosophy. While at Creighton, Ms. Nwakama was awarded the Clare Boothe Luce Scholarship during her junior and senior years for her excellence as a female researcher and in the classroom. Her research on the physics of cancer is slated to be published in the near future.

Ms. Palmer is pursuing her J.D. degree at the Northeastern University School of Law.  She received a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Southern California.  Prior to entering law school, Ms. Palmer worked as a Project Engineer for The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company, where she led teams responsible for completing multi-million dollar construction projects.  Working as a biracial woman in the male-dominated construction industry reinforced the importance of diversity in the workplace for Ms. Palmer.  She plans to study IP law and hopes to serve as a mentor for those who are underrepresented in the field.

Ms. Rivera is pursuing her J.D. degree at UC Davis School of Law. She received a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering and Chemistry from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. While completing her degree, Ms. Rivera was a member of the Society of Women Engineers and Engineers Without Borders. Prior to law school, Ms. Rivera worked as a process engineer at bio- and nanotechnology start-ups in the Bay Area.

Alexander Toney
Alexander Toney

Mr. Toney is pursuing his J.D. degree at the University of Virginia School of Law. He received a B.S. in Industrial and Systems Engineering and a B.S. in Chemistry (Biochemistry emphasis) from the University of Florida. While at UF, Alex was a grader for operations research and industrial quality control, where he assisted in teaching and evaluating approximately 200 students in those topics. During his senior year, Alex was also a Virtual Student Federal Service intern at the U.S. State Department, where he co-authored a cable showing how queueing theory and simulation techniques could be used to optimize consular services.

Mr. Toro is pursuing his J.D. degree at Drexel University Kline School of Law. He received a Bachelor of Science in Physics and Mathematics from Villanova University where his major research endeavors involved double perovskite semiconductors and spatial networks. While pursuing his degree, Mr. Toro was an active member of Villanova’s LGBTQ+ club, representing students and organizing events. Prior to entering law school, Mr. Toro was employed by IQVIA Inc. as a data analyst.

Tiffany Allen

Ms. Allen is pursuing her J.D. degree at UC Berkeley.  She received a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Business from the University of Southern California and, prior to law school, was employed as a quality assurance engineer, software engineer and  senior automation architect at Workday, Inc., a provider of cloud-based HR- and finance-related software services for businesses.  In her Senior Automation Architect role at Workday, Ms. Allen was responsible for overseeing the quality improvement efforts of software developers in each of the company’s product areas.  Ms. Allen is a member of the National Society of Black Engineers, where she has been active in its community outreach efforts targeted to motivating minority youth to pursue a STEM education.

Ms. Costella is pursuing her J.D. degree at the University of Houston Law Center.  She received a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience and Behavioral Biology from Emory University. Prior to entering law school, Ms. Costella was employed as a Math and Science teacher at an alternative high school in Phoenix, where she provided instruction, adapted curriculum for Spanish-speaking students, and spearheaded the development of a conceptual science curriculum.  While pursuing her Bachelor of Science degree, Ms. Costella attended the Pre-Law Undergraduate Scholar program at the University of Maine School of Law.  From co-chairing Elect-Her on the leadership board at the Center for Women at Emory and spearheading the Women in STEM housing programs, Ms. Costella plans to pursue patent and IP law to serve as a role model for her Latinx community who are underrepresented in both the STEM and legal fields.

Mr. Garg is pursuing his J.D. degree at the George Washington University School of Law.  He received a Bachelor of Science in Chemical and Polymer Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh.  After completing his Bachelor of Science degree, Mr. Garg worked as a Process Engineer for Adhesives Research, Inc, where he led engineering projects from initial customer specification to successful commercialization.  Prior to entering law school, Mr. Garg worked as a Patent Examiner at the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

Sangheon Han

Dr. Han is pursuing his J.D. degree at the University of Houston Law Center. He received a Ph.D. in Bioengineering from Rice University, an M.S. in Chemical Engineering from Miami University of Ohio, and a B.S. in Environmental Engineering from the University of Seoul. Dr. Han has been a postdoctoral fellow at the MD Anderson Cancer Center, and a Technical Writer by Hao Law P.C. and interned at the Office of Technology Transfer, Rice University. While pursuing his Doctorate, Dr. Han’s research image was selected for the collection gallery of the National Cancer Institute Cancer Close Up 2017. Dr. Han was active with the Korean Federation of Science and Technology Societies and participated as one of 15 Rice engineering students in the Ignite Entrepreneurship Trek 2018, where he learned about major trends and innovations in established companies and venture-capital-backed start-up life-science companies in Houston and Silicon Valley.

Ms. Kimbrough is pursuing her J.D. degree at Vanderbilt University School of Law.  She received a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Tuskegee University and, while a student at Tuskegee, was employed as a Legal Redress Committee Intern at the NAACP Nashville Branch.  Ms. Kimbrough is a member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), where she served as Community Service chair, and the United Health Diverse Scholars Initiative, which promotes the exploration of solutions to critical public health issues faced by underrepresented and under-served communities.

Dr. Lampert is pursuing his J.D. degree at Duke University School of Law. He received a PhD in Biomedical Sciences from the University of California – San Diego and a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology from The Ohio State University.  At UCSD, Dr. Lampert was an NIH F31 Graduate Research Fellow, and received the UCSD T32 Pharmacology Training Grant. Since 2016, Dr. Lampert has served as a mentor for first generation Hispanic high school students seeking admission to a four-year University.

Ms. Patel is pursuing her J.D. degree at the George Mason University Antonin Scalia Law School.  She received a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from George Mason University.  While pursuing her Bachelor of Science degree, Ms. Patel served as an extern for the United States Patent and Trademark Office, analyzing patent applications in the field of image processing.  Ms. Patel was a member of the Indian Student Association, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, and Society of Women Engineers during her undergraduate studies.  Ms. Patel served as a Women in STEM E-Mentor, providing guidance regarding STEM classes and projects to female high school students.

Noah Rushin
Noah Rushin

Mr. Rushin is pursuing his J.D. degree at Columbia University School of Law.  He received a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of Virginia where he served as an Undergraduate Research in Dr. William Epling’s Catalysis Lab and as a Teaching Assistant for Differential Equation. As a fourth-year student, Mr. Rushin was awarded the McGuire Woods Scholarship and the Ridley-OAAA Academic Achievement Award. While pursuing his degree, Mr. Rushin was an active member of AlChE (American Institute of Chemical Engineers), representing students and organizing professional development for Chemical Engineering students.

Dr. Serag is pursuing her J.D. degree at the University of Wisconsin-Madison Law School.  She pursued her graduate studies in Biotechnology through the American University in Cairo where she did her Masters research at UT-Southwestern and her Ph.D. research in Molecular Biology at Harvard Medical School. She has a Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Clinical Pharmacy from Ain Shams University, Cairo. She practiced as a Clinical Pharmacist, Clinical Scientist, Clinical Assistant Professor, and, since 2017, has served as a Lecturer at the School of Pharmacy at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.  Her research has been published in CellGenes and Development, Molecular Cell Biology, Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise, and Cell Metabolism.

Ms. Yee is pursuing her J.D. degree at Santa Clara University School of Law.  She received a Bachelor of Science in Biology from San Jose State University, with minors in Chemistry and Legal Studies. Timon Amirani

Mr. Amirani is pursuing his J.D. degree at UCLA School of Law. He received a Bachelor of Science in Electrical & Computer Engineering from Cornell University. Prior to entering law school, Mr. Amirani was employed at Analog Devices, Inc, where he worked as a Product Engineer in the High Speed Converters group. His daily work included working in a lab environment to characterize and evaluate digital to analog (DAC) signal converters, as well as lead a small team in evaluation planning and management for new transceiver technologies.
